Voigtlander COLOR ULTRON 50mm 1.8

Dug deep
One really has to dig deep to have any love for this lens. Its ugly. The lens itself is ordinary looking. Its the mount that I am disappointed with. True, the previous owner did a wonderful job modifying a pipe to enable it to mount on a LTM camera. But still, its ugly. The bed sheet in which its on does not help at all.

As with many adapted lenses, the extra flange distance makes the lens jut out. Aesthetically, they can be less pleasing to the eyes that native lenses on native bodies. And to me, looking good kind of contribute to me feeling good in using the gears. But nevertheless, making pictures is what matters most, and that, I can tell you is when the fun starts.

Edited in LR. Taken using touit 32mm and Xpro1.

Please dont mind the bedsheet in which its on.

LR
Prior to using this lens on the Xe2, I had the Auto Vivitar 105mm affixed on it. I love it. Beautiful potraits and its so easy to achieved such film like images. This lens, as the name implies, is better suited to color, if like me you are shooting on the Xe2. I have posted and will continue to post images taken with this lens, maybe using a different body, to this page. So please come back often.

When it come to take color images, the colors seems more realistic. Very few clicks on LR to have the colors shine through. Black and white images though, are more flat. BUT, I have only use this lens and body setup for the past 3 days. I used the Vivitar set up for more than a week.

Throwback. Auto Vivitar 105mm

Thus, I can't have that many pictures to showcase. But here is an image of a purple peabody, converted to black and white in LR.

I have to state that I am in now where as good as some of my friends when it comes to Adobe Light Room manipulation. So my skills are as good as a beginner or even less.

Out of focus
But there is one thing that I cannot manipulate. That is, the out of focus areas rendered by this lens. Its awesome. One of the better renderings from all of my 50mm lens. Its so organic. The only more organic out of focus areas rendered would be, in my opinion is the Panasonic Leica 25mm 1.4. But that is a lens native to the Micro 4 third system.

On the Xpro1.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
I decided to mount the lens on my Xpro1. Oh Am Gee... Somehow the older Xtrans sensor provide some image rendering steroids to the lens. Colors came out more vibrant, and images came out sharper.

On the Xpro1.

Focussing on the xpro1 is quite different for me. One main reason is the lack of a dioptre adjustment. Thus images in the electronic view finder somehow never seemed sharp. But after putting things into account, images just came out nicely. I guess, no, I know, the more you shoot, the more you know your gears.

On the Xe2.
I cannot stress this enough, the out of focus areas, the rendering is top notch. If that what rocks your boat, I suggets you look for one.

On the Xe2. Edited in LR.

In conclusion, could there ever be a conclusion, the more you shoot the more your gears will show you their love to you.
However, the set up still looks ugly. And I don't feel like shooting with it anymore. I will, however not get rid of it. I have however, swap the lens with the Canon 50mm 1.4 LTM mount on my Xpro 1. At least it looks nicer.

Bye.
